The horse is judged based upon its conformation, overall. appearance, and usefulness. Conformation is defined as the physical appearance of a horse due to the arrangement of muscle, bone, and other body tissues.
Showmanship is judged on the exhibitor’s ability to fit and show a horse at halter with the horse merely being a prop to demonstrate the ability and preparation of the exhibitor. It is not a halter class and is not judged as such. The ideal performance consists of a poised, confident, neatly attired exhibitor leading a well-groomed and conditioned horse that quickly and efficiently performs the pattern with promptness smoothness, and precision.
This class is judged on the performance of the horse over and through obstacles with emphasis on manners, response to the handler and attitude. Contestants will lead the horse on a halter/lead over or through five trail obstacles, to be chosen by the judge.
Exhibitors compete over a course of 3 to 6 jumps. Jump heights are no higher than 18".
By participating in the costume class you will get the opportunity to have some creative fun with your horse, yet still enjoy the competitive challenge of competing for a ribbon.
Don’t have a horse? It’s okay, you can lease one of our horses! Adult leaser or parent must have horse experience.
